India Accelerates Tech Transformation Through Landmark RDI Scheme and National Missions

India is rapidly positioning itself as a global leader in technological innovation with the launch of game-changing government initiatives. In November 2025, the country unveiled the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme Fund, committing ₹1 lakh crore to support private sector-driven research and development in critical areas like artificial intelligence, quantum computing, biotechnology, and advanced materials. The RDI Scheme offers long-term low or zero-interest loans and equity support to fuel cutting-edge R&D.

Alongside the RDI Scheme, the India AI Mission approved in March 2024 aims to make India an AI powerhouse through investments in infrastructure, public datasets, and startups such as Bharat Gen AI. AI centers of excellence are being established in healthcare and agriculture to expand national capabilities.

India's National Quantum Mission is advancing quantum technologies with four thematic hubs at leading institutes, developing quantum communication infrastructure, advanced sensors, and quantum materials. The India Semiconductor Mission is revolutionizing chip design and manufacturing, providing 50% fiscal support, and incentivizing indigenous innovation with multiple projects already under construction.

Together with the Digital India program, which strengthens digital infrastructure and e-governance, these ambitious initiatives are helping India leap ahead in global technology from quantum breakthroughs to AI-driven transformation.
