In a strategic move to bolster technological leadership and innovation, the United States has signed major Technology Prosperity Deals (TPDs) with Japan and South Korea. These agreements, signed in late 2025, build on the earlier U.S.-United Kingdom TPD and aim to deepen bilateral cooperation in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, biotechnology, space exploration, 6G telecommunications, and fusion energy.
The U.S.-Japan deal enhances collaboration on AI export controls, research security, resilient biotech supply chains, and advancing lunar surface exploration and commercial space capabilities through the Artemis program. The partnership also targets joint progress in secure 6G network development and fusion reactor technology, leveraging Japan’s JT-60SA tokamak facility.
Similarly, the U.S.-South Korea pact focuses on reducing regulatory barriers for tech companies, strengthening AI standards and enforcement, and securing innovation ecosystems in areas like biotechnology and quantum technologies. The agreement includes cooperation on space programs and the development of trusted 6G networks. Both countries will also collaborate to promote AI education programs worldwide, empowering future generations for the digital economy.
Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, emphasized that these deals redefine American technological leadership by driving collaborative innovation with key allies in Asia.
These TPDs align the United States with critical partners to advance strategic technological interests while safeguarding innovation and national security in an increasingly competitive global environment.
